Where Do AirDrop Files Go?

I know AirDrop asks me which app to open certain files, but I’m not sure where they go. Ryan Ariano knows:

Unlike when you share files to your MacBook, however, you aren’t given a choice as to where your files get saved. They will go automatically to the app that is associated with their file type.
